About IASCB

Confidence built
on independence.

IASCB is an independent accreditation body supporting confidence in certification, professional competence and conformity assessment.

Who we are

An independent
public-interest function.

The International Accreditation Service for Certification Bodies (IASCB) is an alliance of organisations and professionals dedicated to assuring competency, professional management and service to the public.

We assess certification bodies and defined certification programmes against applicable requirements. This gives organisations, markets, regulators and the public an additional source of confidence when evaluating certification claims.

Our purpose

Make credible
claims easier to trust.

Accreditation works when its meaning is clear. Our role is to assess competence, impartiality and consistency within a defined scope, then make that information useful to the people who rely on it.

01For certification bodies

A structured route to demonstrate that systems, people and certification decisions operate consistently.

02For stakeholders

Clear public information to support informed choices about certification and conformity-assessment services.

03For the wider market

Independent assurance that helps strengthen confidence, comparability and professional practice.

Our development

Experience with
a practical focus.

IASCB was chartered in 1996 by association executives who recognised the need for accessible evaluation of certification programmes, including for smaller organisations.

Since then, IASCB has developed assessment tools and processes to help certification bodies improve existing programmes and demonstrate alignment with international good practice.

Our work continues to combine technical discipline with a constructive understanding of the organisations we assess.

How we work

Principles that
guide every assessment.

Our credibility depends on how consistently we apply these principles in practice.

01

Impartiality

Decisions are protected from commercial, financial, personal and organisational pressures.

02

Competence

Assessment activity is grounded in appropriate technical knowledge, experience and evidence.

03

Transparency

Accreditation scopes, status information and expectations are communicated as clearly as possible.

04

Continual improvement

We learn from feedback, findings and changes in conformity-assessment practice.

Governance & oversight
